Worship at Broadneck Baptist Church
Worship is at the heart of what we do as a church community. It is a time to build our relationship with God, with others, and with the world around us as we are reminded of our mission as followers of Jesus.
Worship at Broadneck is a time when all voices are heard. Though Pastor Abby preaches most Sundays and leads some parts of the service, there are opportuities for all voices to be heard as we express our love for God as a community. Different members of the community lead prayers, do scripture readings, and help collect the offering each month, and all people are welcome to voice their own stories of joy and sorrow during our weekly sharing of concerns and celebrations. When we celebrate communion, usually we gather at front in a circle and serve one another, embodying the truth that Christ's table is one where all are welcome and included. Children and youth are included as worship leaders as early as they are ready and express an interest.
We invite people to come to worship as themselves, not just in spirit but in body. So some people dress up, some people wear jeans. You are invited to come just as you are.
Worship is planned by a group of volunteers called the Worship Ministry Group (read more about our ministry groups here). We use a calendar of scriptures called a lectionary to provide guidance to our planning. We try to include music and prayers that meet a variety of generational and personality styles and that reflect our wide variety of cultural heritage. The Worship Ministry Group regularly asks the community for feedback and suggestions for worship.
