Stephen Price - Pastor in the Interim (October 2007-May 2010)
Stephen Price served as Broadneck Baptist's interim pastor from October 2007 to May 2010. During his fruitful time as pastor, Stephen stressed the importance of introspection, community, and inclusion through the context of Jesus' ministry. Stephen pointed to the book of Hosea where God said our names are written on his hand and how God walks along side of us, holding our hands as we learn to walk. One of the touchstones of Stephen's ministry is that "No one lives and no one dies outside of God's loving embrace."
Stephen is a native of Spartanburg, SC. He attended Carson-Newman College for two years and graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. He attended seminary, but received his Master of Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Boston in Sociology/Criminology. He currently is pursuing a Master of Science in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola Collage in Baltimore, Maryland.
He has also recently served as Interim Pastor at Commonwealth Baptist Church In Arlington, Va. (Nov. 2011-May 2012).
Stephen specializes in the treatment of sexual offenders and has worked with this population in prisons, juvenile residential facilities, and outpatient programs. He also works with victims of trauma and has a particular interest in the treatment of sexual addiction - especially sexually addicted clergy. He is director of the Justice and Healing Center for Trauma and Recovery in Silver Spring.
In short, Stephen is awesome.
Stephen is married to Carole Swift Price (who is also wonderfully great). Between them they have 5 grown children and two grand-daughters.

Melanie Vaughn-West - Pastor (September 2001-July 2007)
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Melanie Vaughn-West received her Master of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. She holds an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to attending seminary, she was employed in public relations for the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and as a TV news reporter in Denison, Texas.
Since her ordination by the Oakhurst Baptist Church in Atlanta and relocation to Annapolis to become pastor at Broadneck, Melanie has been actively involved in the ecumenical Broadneck Ministerium, the Alliance of Baptists, the American Baptist Minister’s Council, and the District of Columbia Baptist Convention (DCBC). She has provided leadership within the DCBC by chairing the Committee on Public Affairs and Social Concerns, serving on the 2010 Visioning Committee and chairing a conference on Restorative Justice.
Melanie helped organize multiple programs at Broadneck Baptist Church, including the Contemplative Prayer and Mediation group, and was a driving force in the Broadneck Ministerium.
Jerry Buckner - Interim Pastor (October 1999-September 2001)
Jerry Buckner, with his wit and sense of humor, was the interim for BBC from October 1999 to September 2001. Jerry, who was the Baptist BSU director at the University of Maryland for many years, brought many years of experience, wisdom and humor with him.
During Jerry’s first year at Broadneck Baptist, the church help fund Amy and Bill Morgan’s year of teaching English and ministry in Mongolia. Amy had been a member of Broadneck Baptist during her years as a student at St. John’s College. He was also instrumental in helping to organize the first West Virginia summer ministry trip.
Our pastor, Abby Thornton, joined the Broadneck Baptist community in 2010, and she leads by walking alongside us as a fellow seeker and disciple of Christ. Though she is a a thoughtful, caring, and knowledgeable person (and really, adjectives fail here), she is also a Duke and UVA fan. Oh well. No one is perfect.

Priesthood of Believers
At Broadneck Baptist, we recognize that while pastoral leadership is important, everyone in the community of faith has the power and responsibility to explore, grow, and nuture as part of the priesthood of believers. We all work together to show Christ's love and help bring God's kingdom into people's everyday lives.
